Snapshots are save points, but backups are the thing that saves you when the whole VPS goes sideways.
Steps
Versaweb Cloud Backup is a separate service from your VPS. Our backups page at https://www.versaweb.com/backups/ describes it as a service for disks and volumes of physical and virtual machines, with a free trial and plans by storage size (pricing starts around $10.50 a month for 100 GB on one device). Prices and trial offers can change, so check the page. You'll need your VPS's IP address and root access.
- Open https://www.versaweb.com/backups/ and read the plan details under pricing.
- Choose a storage size in the pricing section, click Order Now, and check out through the client portal with your Versaweb account.
- Wait for the account details, then log in to the backup dashboard.
- Decide your backup scheme. The options are always incremental, always full, weekly full with daily incremental, GFS (monthly full, weekly differential, daily incremental), or custom. Weekly full with daily incremental is a sensible start for most servers.
- Set a schedule, and choose what to protect (the VPS disk or specific locations).
- Run the first backup manually and let it finish.
- Test a restore. A backup you've never restored is a hope, not a backup. Restore a few files to a temporary folder and check them.
- Before you cancel the trial or let it lapse, decide whether to keep the service.
You can also run and restore backups from the VPS page in the portal at https://noc.versaweb.com. Those are separate from Cloud Backup.
If it didn't work
- If you can't reach the backup dashboard, check the account email for your login details.
- If a backup fails, note the error text and the time.
- Open a ticket under Technical Support with your IP address and the error, and say which of the two backup services you're using.
