The short version: tell us at least 5 days before renewal, and back up your data before you do.
Before you start
Back up anything you want to keep. Cancelled services are taken offline and the data goes with them. You'll also want your VPS's IP address and your service ID.
Two policies apply, both from our existing support policy:
- Section 4 of the Terms of Service requires at least 5 days' notice before the renewal date.
- Smart VPS plans carry a 1 week satisfaction guarantee, as advertised on our Smart VPS page.
Steps
- Decide which you want: cancel the service, or move to a smaller plan.
- Check your renewal date. Log in at https://noc.versaweb.com, click Services, open your VPS, and note the next due date.
- Back up your data (see our backup and snapshot articles).
- Open a ticket in the client area. For a cancellation, include the IP address, the service ID, and the words "please cancel at the end of the billing cycle". For a downgrade, name the plan you want.
- If you're inside the first week and unhappy, say so in the ticket and mention the satisfaction guarantee.
- Wait for our confirmation. We reply to confirm the cancellation request and when it takes effect.
If less than 5 days remain before renewal, the cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the next billing period, and a late cancellation fee can apply as an alternative. Ask in the ticket, and we'll tell you your options.
If it didn't work
- No confirmation within a business day? Reply on the same ticket.
- Billed after cancelling? Reply with the invoice number.
- Billing questions are fastest through the Billing ticket category.
