IPv4 addresses are scarce, so we ask for a reason before handing them out. Think of it as a very polite bouncer.
Steps
Have these ready:
- your server's Main IP
- how many addresses you need
- what you'll use them for (for example, one address per customer site, or a mail server that needs its own IP). ARIN rules require us to justify every allocation.
- Check what you already have. Open your server's page in the portal at https://noc.versaweb.com; your Main IP and any additional IPs are listed in the service details.
- Work out the block size you need. Blocks come in sizes such as 8, 16, 32, or 64 addresses, and not every address in a block is usable.
- Open a ticket in the portal and set Department to Technical Support. Put your Main IP, the number of addresses, and your justification in the Message.
- Wait for confirmation. Requests are handled in the order received and can take several business days or longer. Large requests can take longer still because of the IPv4 supply.
- Once the block is assigned, add the new addresses in your operating system. Ask in the same ticket if you want help with the configuration.
If it didn't work
- Please don't open a second ticket for a request already in the queue. It slows down the original one. Reply to the existing ticket instead.
- The usual maximum for a single server is a /26 (64 addresses, 61 usable). If you need more than that, say so in your ticket and it goes to our network engineering team.
- Need PTR records for the new IPs? See our reverse DNS article.
