Where can I see my dedicated server's bandwidth graphs, and what is using the traffic?

Your server's traffic graph is in the portal, and it saves a lot of guessing about where the bandwidth went.

Steps

Have your server's Main IP ready. If you want to compare against the plan allowance, the listed plans on our dedicated servers page show 100TB of bandwidth on a 1000Mbps port. Check your own plan on the same page or in your order.

  1. Log in at https://noc.versaweb.com.
  2. Click Services and open your dedicated server.
  3. Find the bandwidth graph on the service page. It shows traffic over time.
  4. Read the graph. Note the busiest times and whether the line is steady or spiking.
  5. On the server, see which process is using the traffic. Install iftop or nload and run sudo iftop -i eth0 (use your own interface name, shown by ip -br a).
  6. For a long-term view per day, install vnstat and run vnstat -d.
  7. Compare graph spikes against your web server logs for the same time window.
  8. If the graph shows a flat line, or no graph, take a note of the time and open a ticket.

If it didn't work

  • Graphs can lag. If traffic you expect isn't there, wait a few minutes and reload.
  • A sudden, constant high line with no clear cause may be a compromised server or an attack. See our DDoS article, and check for unknown processes with top.
  • Questions about allowance or limits? Open a ticket in the portal and set Department to Technical Support. Include your Main IP and the dates you're asking about.
