Reply to the notice and tell us what you did. That keeps your service online.
Steps
Read the notice all the way through. It names the content, address or activity that was reported. Keep the original message and the ticket number.
- Open the abuse ticket in the portal at https://noc.versaweb.com, or reply to the notice email.
- Find what the complaint points to: a URL, an IP address, or a type of activity such as spam, scanning or login attempts.
- Fix it. For copyright complaints, remove the material. For spam or hacking reports, stop the sending or close the hole, for example a compromised script or weak password.
- Reply on the same ticket and say what you changed. If you think the notice is wrong, give the details of your appeal or counter-notice instead.
- Answer quickly. A second notice can mean we disable the IP address within 24 hours, and that affects every site hosted on it.
- Keep an eye on the ticket for follow-up questions from our team.
What happens if it keeps happening
Our Acceptable Use Policy lets us suspend or terminate service for violations. Repeated complaints can also bring an administrative charge for the time they take. Your Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy at https://www.versaweb.com/terms and the acceptable use page have the full wording.
If it didn't work
- Not sure what the notice refers to? Ask on the ticket. We'll point you to the exact item.
- Think your server was compromised? Say so in the ticket. That's useful information, not an admission of guilt.
- Notice came from us, but you didn't get it? Check the email address on your account is current.
